Revelation 9:8

They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like those of lions.

What does Revelation 9:8 mean?

This is part of John's vision of terrifying locusts rising from the abyss, and the description is deliberately unsettling. The creatures have a grotesque mix of features that don't belong together: delicate, flowing hair combined with the savage teeth of a predator. It's the kind of nightmare detail that makes something feel deeply wrong, even if you can't quite say why. In John's apocalyptic imagery, these aren't meant to be literal locusts but rather spiritual forces of destruction and torment. By mixing human and animal features in disturbing ways, he's showing us something that defies nature, something twisted and unnatural. The contrast between the almost beautiful (flowing hair) and the terrifying (lion's teeth) captures how evil often operates in our world: it doesn't always announce itself obviously, but arrives wearing a mixture of attraction and threat that leaves us unsettled and afraid.
