Revelation 22:11
“He who acts unjustly, let him act unjustly still. He who is filthy, let him be filthy still. He who is righteous, let him do righteousness still. He who is holy, let him be holy still.””
What does Revelation 22:11 mean?
At first glance, this sounds harsh, like God is condemning people to stay stuck in their sin. But read in context, it's actually describing the final judgment, when Christ returns and time as we know it ends. By that point, the choices we've made throughout our lives have shaped who we are, and there's no more opportunity to change direction. What John is really saying is that our decisions matter profoundly. If we've spent our lives turning away from God, we'll continue in that separation. If we've spent our lives growing closer to Him and becoming more like Him, we'll continue in that wholeness. It's less about God locking people away and more about the natural consequence of the paths we choose now. This verse is actually an urgent call to examine where we're heading while we still can, because the time to turn around is today, not later.
