Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”

What does Revelation 21:4 mean?

This beautiful promise speaks to the end of all suffering in God's presence, offered as comfort to early Christians facing persecution and loss. John is describing a future reality where God himself will tenderly remove our tears, and the causes of those tears, death and sorrow and physical pain, will simply cease to exist. The "first things" refers to everything about our current broken world, all the hardship and brokenness we know now that will be completely gone. It's a vision meant to anchor hope during dark times, reminding us that our pain is not permanent and that God's heart is moved by our suffering, not indifferent to it.
