What does Revelation 2:8 mean?
Jesus identifies himself here to a church facing real suffering and persecution. By calling himself "the first and the last," he's claiming the authority and power of God, reminding them they're not abandoned by someone minor or temporary. The phrase "who was dead, and has come to life" is especially meaningful for a community wondering if faith is worth the cost: Jesus himself has already walked through death and emerged victorious on the other side.
