Revelation 2:7
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God.”
What does Revelation 2:7 mean?
Jesus is speaking directly to the church at Ephesus, but this closing invitation applies to all believers who will listen. The "tree of life" echoes the garden of Eden, where humanity was separated from this source of eternal life because of sin, and now Jesus is promising it back to those who remain faithful to him. "Overcoming" here doesn't mean achieving perfection, but rather staying committed to following Jesus even when it's difficult, even when the world pulls in other directions. The reward isn't just escape from judgment, but intimate restored relationship with God, symbolized by eating from a tree that brings life itself. This is Jesus's way of saying that faithfulness, even through struggle, leads to genuine flourishing and belonging with him forever.
