Revelation 16:21
“Great hailstones, about the weight of a talent, came down out of the sky on people. People blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, for this plague is exceedingly severe.”
What does Revelation 16:21 mean?
In John's vision of end times, massive hailstones (weighing about 75 pounds each, which was an enormous talent in ancient measurement) fall from heaven as divine judgment. Rather than turning toward God in repentance or fear, the people respond with anger and curses, blaming God for their suffering instead of recognizing it as consequence. This moment captures a heartbreaking spiritual truth: sometimes when we experience overwhelming hardship, we can become hardened against God rather than drawn toward Him, especially if we're already resistant to His voice. The vision suggests that judgment alone doesn't automatically create faith, which is why John emphasizes throughout Revelation that people had chances to repent earlier but refused.
