Revelation 11:17
“saying: “We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who was; because you have taken your great power, and reigned.”
What does Revelation 11:17 mean?
In this moment, the twenty-four elders (representing all of God's people throughout history) burst into praise because they recognize that God has finally begun to openly exercise the power He always possessed. They're acknowledging that the waiting is over, that God's kingdom is no longer hidden or seemingly dormant, but is now visibly breaking into the world. Their gratitude isn't just about what God has done, but about who He is: the eternal one, the source of all authority, the one who never lost control even when circumstances seemed otherwise. This is the kind of praise that comes when people realize their trust in God wasn't misplaced, when they see His promises actually unfolding before them.
