Psalms 96:9
“Worship Yahweh in holy array. Tremble before him, all the earth.”
What does Psalms 96:9 mean?
When we come to God in worship, we're invited to bring our whole selves, reverently and with intention. "Holy array" doesn't necessarily mean fancy clothes, but rather an attitude of respect and care, showing that we take our time with God seriously. The second part recognizes something true about standing before the divine: there's a kind of awe and humility that naturally arises when we're really present with God, a trembling that comes not from fear of punishment but from encountering something infinitely greater than ourselves. This psalm calls us to worship that's both joyful and reverent, both warm and wonderstruck.
