Psalms 95:7
“for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!”
What does Psalms 95:7 mean?
The psalmist is drawing on the ancient image of God as a shepherd and us as his sheep, which speaks to both protection and belonging. When we're part of God's flock, we're not abandoned or forgotten, but actively cared for by someone who knows us completely. The final line carries an urgent longing, as if the writer is saying: "Don't just know this truth about God's care, actually listen to what he's telling you right now, today." It's an invitation to move from distant belief into real relationship, to let God's voice matter in the decisions and struggles we're facing right now rather than treating it as something nice to think about someday.
