“Make vows to Yahweh your God, and fulfill them! Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.”
What does Psalms 76:11 mean?
When we make promises to God, we're not making casual commitments that can be broken when circumstances change. The psalmist is calling us to think seriously before we vow anything to God, and then to actually follow through, because keeping our word reflects our respect for who he is. This matters because broken promises to God reveal that we don't truly reverence him, even if we say we do with our mouths. The second part invites all people around us to bring gifts and honor to God, recognizing his authority and power.
