What does Psalms 73:3 mean?

The psalmist is being honest about a struggle many of us face, even today: watching people who seem to have no regard for God flourish while you're working hard to do what's right. It's that raw feeling of unfairness that can shake your faith when the ruthless person gets ahead and the faithful person suffers. The psalmist isn't hiding this feeling or pretending it doesn't exist, which gives permission to admit when we too feel the sting of envy watching others succeed through shortcuts or selfishness. This psalm goes on to work through that temptation, but it starts here in the gut-level truth of what jealousy actually feels like.
