Psalms 62:9
“Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath.”
What does Psalms 62:9 mean?
Whether someone has little or much in this world, neither status nor wealth holds any real weight when measured against what truly matters. The psalmist is saying that all human power and position, no matter how impressive they seem, amount to nothing, like a puff of air that disappears. Put a wealthy person and a poor person on a scale, and spiritually speaking, they're equally insubstantial, equally unable to save themselves or carry anything beyond this life. This isn't meant to make you feel worthless, but rather to free you from the exhausting chase for status and approval. When life is hard or you feel overlooked, remember that the powerful people you worry about are no more secure or ultimately valuable than you are. Real security comes from somewhere else entirely, which is what the psalmist keeps pointing toward throughout this psalm: trust in God, not in the shifting sand of human rank or reputation.
