What does Psalms 50:13 mean?
God is asking this rhetorical question to point out something his people had misunderstood about worship. The Israelites were bringing animal sacrifices thinking that God literally needed or wanted the physical meat and blood, as if he were hungry. But God is saying, "No, that's not what I'm after"—he already owns all the animals in the world anyway. What God actually desires is something far deeper: a humble heart, genuine gratitude, and a life lived in right relationship with him. The sacrifices were meant to be outward signs of inner devotion, not transactions to feed or appease him. If your worship is only about going through the motions or trying to earn God's favor with the right rituals, you've missed the whole point. God wants *you*—your honesty, your trust, and your commitment to living justly and lovingly.
