Psalms 37:7
“Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.”
What does Psalms 37:7 mean?
When everything around us feels unfair, it's natural to feel anxious or even angry at those who seem to be getting ahead through dishonest means. This verse invites us into a different posture: instead of burning energy worrying about wrongdoing we can't control, we're called to settle our hearts and trust that God sees what's happening. "Resting" here means more than relaxation, it's about releasing the weight of that anger and the exhausting work of comparing ourselves to others. The second part acknowledges something real, the legitimate frustration when corrupt people appear to be winning. But the psalmist's wisdom is that watching them and fretting over the injustice only poisons our own peace. We're invited to remember that God's timeline is different from ours, and that our job is to keep our hearts aligned with him rather than keep score of who's prospering unfairly.
