Psalms 28:4
“Give them according to their work, and according to the wickedness of their doings. Give them according to the operation of their hands. Bring back on them what they deserve.”
What does Psalms 28:4 mean?
The psalmist is crying out for justice, asking God to let people experience the natural consequences of their own harmful choices. When someone does wrong, the prayer is that they would face what that wrongdoing actually produces, rather than escaping accountability or shifting blame onto others. This comes from a place of real pain. The psalmist has been wronged and is asking God to be the fair judge that humans often fail to be. There's an honesty here about wanting justice that many of us can recognize, even if it feels uncomfortable to admit. The beauty beneath the difficult words is that the psalmist isn't taking revenge into their own hands, but instead is bringing their anger and hurt to God and asking him to make things right.
