For all his ordinances were before me. I didn’t put away his statutes from me.

What does Psalms 18:22 mean?

The psalmist is describing a posture of attentiveness and faithfulness, saying that God's ways and commands were constantly visible to him, and he deliberately kept them close rather than pushing them aside. It's less about perfect obedience and more about the orientation of his heart, the choice to keep God's instruction in view when it would have been easy to ignore or forget it. In the midst of trouble (which is the context of this psalm), he's reflecting on how his commitment to God's ways sustained him, even when following them was difficult.
