Psalms 18:21
“For I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and have not wickedly departed from my God.”
What does Psalms 18:21 mean?
The psalmist is declaring his faithfulness during a time of trouble, reminding himself (and God) that he has genuinely tried to follow the right path. This isn't arrogance but rather an honest appeal: "I haven't turned away from you, so please don't turn away from me now." It's the kind of thing someone cries out when they're suffering and wondering if God has abandoned them, when they need to hold onto the reality that they've stayed true to their relationship with him. What makes this particularly human is that the psalmist isn't claiming perfection, just that he hasn't deliberately chosen to walk away. He's asking God to remember his commitment during his darkest moments, much like we might remind a friend of our loyalty when we're both going through something hard together.
