What does Psalms 148:1 mean?

The psalmist opens by calling heavenly beings—the angels and all the celestial realms—to join in praising God. There's an infectious joy here, as if the writer is gathering everyone and everything in creation to sing together. This isn't a command meant to shame us into compliance, but an invitation to recognize something the heavens already seem to know: that God's work is so magnificent it deserves celebration. When we read this, we're being welcomed into a chorus that's much bigger than ourselves.
