Psalms 140:10
“Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise.”
What does Psalms 140:10 mean?
This is a prayer for justice against those who actively harm the vulnerable. The psalmist is asking God to stop people who plot violence and cruelty, using vivid language about fire and destruction to express the intensity of that plea. It's the kind of raw, honest prayer that appears throughout the Psalms, where people bring their deepest fears and anger to God rather than pretending to feel peaceful about injustice.
