What does Psalms 106:19 mean?
When Moses was on Mount Horeb receiving God's law, the people below grew impatient and afraid. They asked Aaron to make them a god they could see and touch, so he melted down their gold jewelry and shaped it into a calf, an idol they could worship right in front of them. This moment captures something deeply human: when we're anxious or uncertain, we often reach for something immediate and tangible rather than trusting in what we can't see. The psalmist is recounting this as a cautionary tale, a reminder of how quickly people abandoned their faith in the God who had just freed them from slavery, choosing instead to worship something they had made with their own hands.
