Psalms 106:14

What does Psalms 106:14 mean?
The Israelites had just witnessed God's miraculous rescue from Egypt, yet almost immediately they began complaining about their circumstances. Rather than trusting the God who had proven faithful, they gave in to their desires and doubts, testing whether God would actually provide for them in the harsh wilderness. This speaks to something universal: it's easy to forget God's faithfulness during difficult seasons and let our wants or fears take over. The psalm is gently reminding us that when we're in our own "desert" or "wasteland," giving in to cravings (whether for comfort, control, or certainty) often comes from a place of forgetting what God has already done. The better path is choosing trust even when circumstances feel barren.
