What does Psalms 104:32 mean?

God's presence and power are so overwhelming that creation itself responds with visible awe. When the psalmist describes the earth trembling and mountains smoking at God's mere glance or touch, they're using the language of earthquakes and volcanoes, natural forces that humble us and remind us we're not in control. This isn't meant to terrify but to inspire wonder, expressing what many of us feel in moments when we recognize something far greater than ourselves. The image suggests that if the solid ground beneath our feet responds to God's attention, we can trust that our own lives, though they may feel shaky, are held by hands that shaped the mountains.
