What does Psalms 103:1 mean?

The psalmist is calling out to their own deepest self, inviting every part of who they are—mind, heart, and spirit—to join in praising God. It's not a command to feel something you don't feel, but rather a decision to redirect your attention toward gratitude and worship, even when life is difficult. This kind of deliberate praise can actually shift our perspective, helping us remember God's goodness when we're stuck in worry or pain. The repetition ("Praise... praise") shows the psalmist's conviction that this act of worship is worth doing, and worth doing with wholehearted intensity.
