What does Proverbs 29:24 mean?
When we choose to cover for someone who's doing wrong, we're harming ourselves more than helping them. The second part paints a picture of someone caught between loyalty to a friend and basic honesty: they've sworn an oath in court, perhaps, but fear speaking the truth will cost them the friendship. Solomon is saying that this compromise—staying silent to protect someone's wrongdoing—actually turns us into our own worst enemy. We damage our integrity, our conscience, and our relationship with God by becoming entangled in dishonesty.
