What does Proverbs 25:23 mean?
Just as a cold north wind reliably stirs up rain, gossip and backbiting reliably stir up anger in the person being talked about. When someone learns they've been criticized behind their back, it naturally creates tension and hurt between people. The proverb invites us to notice this pattern: our words have consequences we can predict, and speaking badly of others tends to damage relationships in a way that's nearly as certain as weather following wind patterns.
