Proverbs 21:27
“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!”
What does Proverbs 21:27 mean?
God cares far more about what's happening in your heart than what you're outwardly doing. This verse says that when someone who lives a dishonest or cruel life tries to make an offering or do something good, it rings hollow and actually offends God. It's like someone who regularly hurts others showing up with a gift, expecting to be seen as generous. The second part drives the point even deeper: if a wicked person's sacrifice is bad, it's even worse when they bring it while thinking wickedly—maybe trying to manipulate God, cover their tracks, or gain favor they haven't earned. God sees straight through empty gestures and hidden motives. This doesn't mean good people can never stumble or that you have to be perfect to approach God, but it does mean authenticity matters. Real reconciliation with God starts with an honest heart, not performance.
