What does Proverbs 17:6 mean?
This beautiful verse captures something many of us have felt across generations: there's a particular joy in seeing your legacy continue through your grandchildren, and equally, children find their sense of worth and identity in their parents. The writer uses the image of a crown, suggesting that aging well in the presence of your descendants feels like wearing honors you never expected. The verse works both directions. It's acknowledging that grandparents often find renewed purpose and delight in grandchildren (sometimes after the harder work of raising their own kids), while also reminding us that our parents are central to who we become. For those separated from family by distance or difficult relationships, this might hurt a little, but it can also point us toward the spiritual family and mentors who help shape us when biological ties are strained or absent.
