What does Proverbs 15:31 mean?
Listening to correction, even when it stings, is actually a gift we give ourselves. When someone points out where we've gone wrong, we have a choice: we can get defensive, or we can take it seriously. The writer of Proverbs says that choosing to listen leads to life in the fullest sense, and it opens the door to belonging with people of real wisdom. This isn't about people who enjoy criticism (who does?), but about those mature enough to recognize that correction often reveals something true about us that we couldn't see on our own. When we become the kind of person who can hear hard feedback without falling apart, we naturally find ourselves in better company, surrounded by others who are also growing and thinking deeply about their lives.
