Proverbs 13:20
βOne who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.β
What does Proverbs 13:20 mean?
The people we spend time with shape who we become in real, measurable ways. When you're regularly around people who think carefully, make thoughtful choices, and seek to learn and grow, their habits and perspectives rub off on you naturally. On the flip side, spending your days with people who make reckless choices or encourage destructive behavior pulls you toward those same patterns, often without you even realizing it's happening. This isn't about judgment or superiority, but about recognizing that our closest relationships are like weights pulling us in a direction. If you're struggling right now, it might be worth gently noticing whether the people closest to you are drawing you toward healing and wisdom or away from it. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for ourselves is to seek out healthier influences and maybe create some distance from relationships that consistently lead us down harder roads.
