What does Proverbs 11:9 mean?
There's real power in words, and this verse captures something many of us have experienced painfully. Someone's careless or malicious speech can wound, mislead, or tear down another person, and the damage can run deep. The contrast here points to a different way of living: when we pursue understanding and wisdom, we develop the discernment to speak truthfully and build others up instead of tearing them down. That knowledge protects us from becoming people who hurt those around us, and it also shields us from being easily manipulated or harmed by destructive words ourselves.
