What does Numbers 32:30 mean?

Moses is laying out the terms for the tribes of Gad and Reuben, who want to settle east of the Jordan River. If they refuse to cross over and fight alongside the other Israelites to conquer Canaan, they'll lose their inheritance in the promised land itself and instead keep whatever they've already claimed on the eastern side. It's a straightforward condition: shared struggle brings shared blessing, but stepping back means stepping out of the fuller promise. This speaks to something many of us recognize, that commitment to the community's journey often shapes what we receive from it.
