What does Numbers 27:12 mean?

Moses is being called to view the Promised Land from a distance, even though he won't enter it himself. This moment comes after Moses has faithfully led Israel through the wilderness for forty years, and God is acknowledging both his obedience and the reality that he won't cross the Jordan River due to his earlier disobedience at the waters of Meribah. There's something tender here: God grants Moses this glimpse so he can see that his life's work wasn't in vain. The land he devoted himself to leading people toward actually exists and is thriving. For anyone who's invested years in a calling or dream that won't fully come to fruition in their lifetime, Moses's experience offers comfort, showing that faithfulness matters even when we don't see the final chapter ourselves.
