Numbers 18:6
“Behold, I myself have taken your brothers the Levites from among the children of Israel. They are a gift to you, dedicated to Yahweh, to do the service of the Tent of Meeting.”
What does Numbers 18:6 mean?
God is telling Aaron that the Levites—the tribe set apart for religious work—are now his responsibility and privilege. Rather than viewing them as servants or subordinates, God frames them as a gift, emphasizing that their dedication to temple work is something valuable and sacred. This arrangement meant Aaron's priestly family would have help carrying out all the rituals and maintenance that kept Israel's worship functioning, which was no small task. It's a beautiful picture of how God provides what we need for the work he calls us to do, and how the people around us who share our faith commitments can be understood as gifts rather than burdens.
