What does Numbers 15:39 mean?
God told the Israelites to attach fringes to their clothing as a practical reminder to obey his commands, something they could literally see throughout their day. The vivid language about following your own heart and eyes reflects a real human struggle: we naturally drift toward whatever feels good or looks attractive in the moment, and without intentional reminders, we easily rationalize choices we'd later regret. Those fringes were meant to be small wake-up calls, a way of saying "pause and remember what actually matters" before acting on impulse. Even though we don't wear fringed garments today, the principle speaks to anyone who recognizes how easy it is to drift from our values without something to help us recenter.
