What does Numbers 15:21 mean?

When Israelites baked bread, they were instructed to set aside a portion of the dough itself as an offering to God, making it a regular practice passed down through their families. This wasn't just about the physical dough, though—it was a way of acknowledging that God provided the grain and the ability to make food, and that their basic sustenance came from Him. By giving the first portion back to Him, they were saying that God held first place in their lives, not an afterthought once they'd taken care of themselves. For people then and now, it's a reminder that generosity and gratitude toward God work best when they're intentional and happen before we worry about what's left for ourselves.
