Numbers 13:8
βOf the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.β
What does Numbers 13:8 mean?
This brief line introduces us to one of the twelve spies sent to scout the promised land of Canaan. Hoshea, whose name means "salvation," would later become far better known as Joshua, the man who would eventually lead Israel into that land after forty years of wilderness wandering. What's striking is that he's introduced here almost quietly, just one name among twelve, before his faith and courage would set him apart as the only scout (along with Caleb) who believed Israel could possess the land God had promised them. If you're familiar with Joshua's story, this moment captures him at the beginning of his long journey toward becoming a trusted leader.
