What does Numbers 13:5 mean?

This is simply part of a roster of twelve men chosen to scout out the promised land of Canaan before the Israelites entered it. Each of the twelve tribes sent a representative, and Shaphat represented Simeon. The list itself doesn't tell us much about Shaphat individually, but it reminds us that God's plans often involve ordinary people doing specific tasks, and sometimes our name appears in Scripture just to show we were there, part of the larger story unfolding.
