What does Numbers 13:18 mean?
Moses sends twelve scouts into Canaan with a practical assignment: figure out what you're actually dealing with. He wants to know the terrain, the people's strength, and their numbers, so the Israelites can make an informed decision about moving forward. This matters because sometimes we face big decisions that feel overwhelming, and it helps to gather real information rather than imagine worst-case scenarios. The scouts were meant to be eyes and ears for the whole community, turning fear into facts. Of course, as the story unfolds, we see that even good information doesn't guarantee good conclusions, since ten of the scouts let what they saw feed their panic instead of their faith. But the principle here is still sound: it's wise to look honestly at what we're facing before we decide we can't handle it.
