What does Numbers 13:10 mean?
This is one of twelve names listed as the Israelite leaders Moses sent to scout the promised land of Canaan. Gaddiel represented his tribe and was tasked with bringing back a report on what they would encounter, the people living there, and whether the land was worth claiming. While his name appears only here, he was chosen for this important role because he was a respected leader among Zebulun. Later, when the scouts returned, most brought a fearful report that discouraged the people, though a few like Joshua and Caleb urged trust in God's promise. This brief mention reminds us that God notices and calls ordinary people for important work, even when their names are barely remembered in the story.
