Numbers 11:23
“Yahweh said to Moses, “Has Yahweh’s hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.””
What does Numbers 11:23 mean?
God is responding to Moses' doubt about whether there's enough food to feed the complaining Israelites in the wilderness. When Moses expresses his anxiety, God essentially asks: "Do you think my power has weakened or become limited?" It's a gentle but pointed reminder that God's ability to provide hasn't changed. The phrase about God's "hand" growing short is an ancient way of expressing limited power or reach. God is inviting Moses to watch and see that what he promises will actually come to pass. This is meant to restore Moses' confidence not through logical argument, but through an appeal to God's nature and track record of faithfulness throughout their journey together.
