What does Nehemiah 6:12 mean?
Nehemiah is facing a moment of spiritual clarity amid pressure and deception. A supposed prophet had urged him to hide in the Temple, claiming danger was coming, but Nehemiah sensed something was wrong. He realized the man hadn't actually been sent by God, and that enemies of Jerusalem's rebuilding project (Sanballat and Tobiah) had paid him to discourage their leader through fear and false guidance. This captures something many people recognize from their own struggles: sometimes we feel pressure to doubt ourselves or abandon our convictions, and it often comes wrapped in voices that sound authoritative or urgent. Nehemiah's "discernment" here means he trusted his spiritual instincts enough to pause and question what he was being told, rather than simply reacting in panic.
