Nehemiah 4:22
“Likewise at the same time said I to the people, “Let everyone with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and may labor in the day.””
What does Nehemiah 4:22 mean?
Nehemiah is organizing the people of Jerusalem to work on rebuilding the city walls while staying alert to danger. He's asking everyone, including their servants, to stay within the city at night so they can take turns standing guard while also working during the day. It's a practical solution born from real threat: enemies were opposing the rebuilding project, so Nehemiah needed both continuous work and continuous protection.
