What does Nehemiah 11:2 mean?

When the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt, the city still needed residents to make it truly thrive again. Some people volunteered to leave their safer, more established homes in other towns and move back to the still-vulnerable capital. Rather than seeing these volunteers as foolish or self-sacrificing in a burdensome way, the community recognized their courage and commitment with genuine blessing and gratitude. There's something beautiful here about how communities honor those willing to take on harder roles for the common good, and how that public appreciation matters.
