What does Nehemiah 10:23 mean?

This is part of a list of names from the covenant renewal ceremony in Jerusalem after the walls were rebuilt. The people gathered to recommit themselves to following God's law, and these individuals (likely leaders or representatives) added their names to the agreement as witnesses. While we don't know much about each person individually, their presence in this moment mattered. They were saying publicly: "We're in this together, and we're choosing to turn back toward God." Sometimes being part of something larger than ourselves, even when we're not the main character in the story, is how real change happens in a community.
