What does Nehemiah 10:22 mean?
This verse is simply part of a long list of names, recording the leaders and priests who stood with Nehemiah and put their seal to a covenant renewal agreement. These were the people publicly committing themselves and their community to follow God's law after returning from exile in Babylon. While the names themselves might feel distant to us, the passage reminds us that real people, with their own fears and hopes, made concrete decisions to turn back toward God. Their willingness to sign their names to such a covenant—knowing it would bind them and their families—shows the weight they gave to their commitment. Sometimes spiritual renewal happens not in grand gestures but in ordinary people deciding to show up and say yes.
