What does Micah 1:8 mean?
The prophet Micah is expressing such deep grief over coming judgment that he's describing himself in a state of complete devastation, stripped of dignity and composure. In ancient cultures, tearing off clothes and wailing publicly was how people expressed unbearable sorrow, so he's not being literal about nakedness but rather communicating that his anguish will be total and uninhibited. The comparison to jackals and owls, creatures that cry out mournfully at night, emphasizes how raw and primal his grief will become. This is Micah's way of saying that what's coming for his people is so serious that it will break him completely, and he won't be able to respond with composure or restraint.
