What does Matthew 8:21 mean?
A disciple has just asked Jesus for permission to delay following him so he can handle a family obligation first, which would have been considered a serious duty in that culture. This wasn't a small request: burial rites and mourning practices were deeply woven into Jewish life, and honoring parents was one of the Ten Commandments.
