Matthew 6:26
“See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?”
What does Matthew 6:26 mean?
Jesus invites us to notice something we can observe any day: wild birds manage to eat without planting fields or storing grain for winter. He's not suggesting we should be irresponsible, but rather pointing out that God's care extends to creatures who can't plan ahead the way humans do. If your Father in heaven feeds those birds, Jesus is asking, doesn't it make sense that he values you far more highly and will care for you too? This hits differently when you're anxious about having enough food, money, or security. It's an invitation to trust, not by ignoring real needs, but by recognizing that you matter deeply to God in a way that wild birds, however cared for, cannot.
