What does Matthew 6:19 mean?
Jesus is inviting us to reconsider what we think will make us secure. He's pointing out that the things we typically chase—money, possessions, status—are fragile. Thieves steal them, time and decay wear them down, and we can't take any of it with us anyway. The deeper message is that anchoring our sense of safety and worth in material things leaves us constantly anxious about losing them. When we shift our focus toward things that actually endure (like relationships, integrity, and our connection to God), we find a steadiness that no circumstance can shake.
