What does Matthew 6:14 mean?

Forgiveness works both ways in our relationship with God. When we genuinely let go of what others have done to hurt us, we're actually opening ourselves to receive God's forgiveness in return. This doesn't mean God's grace is conditional or that we earn forgiveness through our own good behavior, but rather that holding onto bitterness toward others creates a barrier between us and God's healing love. The willingness to forgive reflects a heart that understands what it means to be forgiven, and that understanding allows us to experience God's mercy more fully in our own lives.
